Lowcountry Tasting: Tavern & Table
Dining with dolphins, drinking with friends - that's what you will find at Tavern & Table nestled in the Venice, Italy of Mount Pleasant: Shem Creek. Cindy and I invited our friend Katie out to for an early lunch and we all were thrilled with the experience. Katie had been before and suggested that we give the Peel and Eat Shrimp a try with a fair warning: things may get messy. The mess happened, but the mess was worth it! I didn't want to wash the creole seasoning off of my fingers. Throw in a little lemon and cocktail sauce on top of that? Forget about it! The Burnt End Mac & Cheese was phenomenal... Barbecue brisket and shells covered in all sorts of cheeses and breadcrumbs baked to perfection? If that doesn't make you salivate, I really don't think anything can.
It never really slows down when the entrees arrive. I chose our server's favorite - the Braised Shortrib Grilled Cheese. The sandwich was supposed to come with chips, but he recommended the french fries. They were hot, salty, fresh, and delicious. Really, I can't say enough about them! They are up there in my top three along with Hall's Chophouse and Ruth's Chris. The sandwich was not bad, itself. Dipped in the au jus, I couldn't tell if I was at a bistro in Paris or right here in South Carolina. Katie loved her Kale and Brussels salad, but Cindy wasn't able to eat her Fish Tacos. She claimed that they were far too spicy for her palate with the definite taste of jalapenos. Be warned, there is no symbol to let you know that they are supposed to be spicy.
